Svrljig

It was built by the Romans when they finally managed to conquer the Thracians in 29 BC. Many centuries later, after the Battle of Kosovo, Svrljig is in the buffer zone between Serbia and Turkey, and, as old writings record, he was attacked personally by Musa Kesedzija. In 1807, the great hajduk Veljko raised insurgents against Turkey in this place, and the most important revolt took place under the leadership of Radojko Trickovic Sajtar, in 1833, on the day of St. Marko, when this area was liberated from the Turks and annexed to the Principality of Serbia.
