Mining in Majdanpek and its surroundings has a tradition of more than 7,000 years. It is also called the city of gold and copper, and in 1882 the first locomotive in the Balkans was built there. The city itself occupies the area of ​​the largest forest and mining complex in eastern Serbia, while the Danube represents the natural border with neighboring Romania. It was first mentioned in 1560 in Turkish documents, as a coin of the word "honey pek".
