The average fish keeper in Serbia earns about 400 euros a month, does not have adequate equipment or enough oil for his motor boat. The water surface it protects is about 50 km2. On that surface live fish species whose market value is estimated at about 12 million euros! Another bad news for fish keepers - the price of fish in Serbia is growing from year to year. The fish that is especially valued is sturgeon. Due to the taste of its meat, sturgeon is hunted en masse and sold uncontrolled in markets and restaurants along the Danube and Sava. The material damage that fish thieves cause to the fish fund of Serbia is measured in millions of euros a year, while the damage that seems to the ecosystem is not measurable. Due to the delicate taste of its meat, sturgeon (a type of river fish that is about 2.5 million years old) was brought to the brink of extinction. For people who deal with nature protection, such as Ljubomir Pejčić, such a situation is unsustainable and that is why they will try to lead state institutions to action.
